Proceedings of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada 1918-1993
Since its creation in 1918, the Uniform Law Conference of Canada has issued printed proceedings to provide a permanent record of its activities. Unhappily, the early work of the Conference has become increasingly hard to find, with only a handful of law libraries possessing a complete set of the printed proceedings. While the Conference has been able to make its more recent materials available through the internet, a treasure trove of legal research and information remained largely inaccessible to legal researchers.. In 2003 an initiative was undertaken to produce a database containing a complete electronic record of the Conference's proceedings for the pre-Internet era. The Conference is now pleased to make this database generally available to legal researchers. The creation of this database largely reflects the efforts and dedication of two individuals: Both are with Alberta Justice, Mr. Dalton being its former Director of Legal Research and Analysis. The Conference wishes to express its gratitude to them for this accomplishment.. This database embraces the Conference proceedings from 1918-1993. This information is stored in PDF format files but in an "image" format rather than as text. The process involved is similar to taking a photograph of each page of the proceedings. This means that these files are not amenable to either copy and paste techniques or text searches; nor will they be retrieved by using Internet search engines such as Google. Most of these files are quite large and it is recommended that they be accessed using a high-speed connection. If your Web browser does not currently support access to PDF files, or the copy of Acrobat Reader installed on your computer is older than version 5.0, you can update it with the newest version at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html or with a previous version (at http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=acrobat). To provide a key to the database we offer two cumulative indices. The first cumulative index is taken from the 1992 proceedings and is basically a guide to the years in which particular Uniform Acts were dealt with. The other cumulative index, taken from the 1939 proceedings, is considerably more detailed for the 1918 to 1939 period it covers. Both indices can be useful depending on the nature of the research task. Most of the older Proceedings exist in English language versions only. Set out below are the links to the proceedings for particular years.
